WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines

Beginners course for those who want to start a career in the wine business or for those who are passionate about wines.

Objectives

  • Get basic knowledge on international wines and main grape varieties
  • Learn to taste wines following the Systematic Approach of WSET
  • Learn to read a wine label
  • Taste and understand wine styles

  • Anyone currently a little lost but interested in wine and wine tasting: HoReCa and the enthusiasts alike
  • People interested in going on to an international career in the wine and/or hospitality industry
  • Anyone interested in acquiring a solid base in wine tasting

The course

  • It is provided by a WSET approved professor who alternates theory and tasting
  • It follows WSET London course materials: powerpoint slides + course work
  • 50% of the time is devoted to theory, 50% to tasting
  • Language of the course is English

White grapes: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling

Red grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/ Shiraz

WinesWhite: Pinot Grigio, Sancerre, Chablis, Sauternes

Sparkling: Cava, Champagne

Red: Bordeaux, Bourgogne, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rioja, Chianti

Study materialsStudents will receive the Level 1 Award in Wine Study Guide

Preparation/plan your study: a period of 6 to 8 hours of home working is recommended before the course.

Duration of course1 day; 1 hour of exam
Examination WSET30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 45 minutes

A mark of 70% required to pass

CertificationAll students who pass will be issued with a certificate suitable for framing and a lapel pin
