WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits

The course is aimed at those who want to improuve their knowledge and to those who need to acquire the next level of wine tasting information for the development of their career.

Objectives

  • Get basic knowledge on international wines and main grape varieties
  • Learn to taste wines following the Systematic Approach of WSET
  • Learn to read a wine label
  • Taste and understand wine styles
  • Understanding wine making process
  • Understand the production of sparkling, sweet and fortified wines

  • Anyone interested in wine and wine tasting: professionals and keen enthusiasts
  • People interested in going on to an international career in the wine and/or hospitality industry
  • Anyone that would like to acquire more information and refine his/hers tasting techniques.

The course

  • It is provided by a WSET approved professor who alternates theory and tasting
  • It follows WSET London course materials: power point slides + course work
  • 50% of the time is devoted to theory, 50% to tasting
  • Language of the course is English

Key white grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling

Other varieties: Albariño, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Muscadet, Pinot, Gris/Grigio, Semillon, Torrontés, Trebbiano and Verdicchio

Key black grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Pinot Noir,Syrah/Shiraz

Other varieties: Barbera, Carmenère, Gamay, Malbec, Montepulciano, Nebbiolo,Pinotage, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Zinfandel

Learn about the main styles of wines from the key wine-producing regions: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, USA, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa

Duration of course16 hours (2 eight-hour sessions) plus 1 hour examination

Examination WSETWSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits 50 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 1 hour

A mark of 55% required to pass

CertificationAll students who pass will be issued with a certificate suitable for framing and a lapel pin
